Get Your Swap Bag
Frequently Asked Questions:
How does KidSwaps work?
You request a prepaid swap bag, fill it with outgrown kids clothes or toys that meet The Closet Standard, and send it back. Every accepted item earns you a credit based on its tier. You use those credits to shop the collection and get something that fits right now.
What comes in my swap bag?
You choose. Once your credits are available, you browse the collection and pick exactly what you want for your child. Everything in the collection meets The Closet Standard and is next-child ready.
How long does the process take?
Once we receive your bag, credits are typically applied within 48 hours. You can start shopping as soon as your credits appear in your account.
Is KidSwaps available everywhere?
We currently ship within the United States.
What happens if my items are not accepted?
Items that do not meet The Closet Standard are not returned. We donate them to local partners so nothing goes to waste.
Can I send toys and clothing in the same bag?
Yes, if you are on the Everything plan. Clothing and toy credits build independently so you earn the right type of credit for each item you send.
What if I am not sure if something qualifies?
Text us a photo before you pack your bag. We will let you know within 24 hours whether it is a fit. No guessing, no surprises.
What sizes do you accept?
We currently accept 6M through 4T in Western fashion traditions for clothing.
What toy brands do you accept?
We focus on open-ended, screen-free toys from quality brands like Melissa and Doug Natural Line, PlanToys, Lovevery, Magna-Tiles, Hape, Green Toys, Grimms, Janod, and Fat Brain Toys. Licensed character toys, electronic toys, and battery-operated toys are not accepted.
How do credits work?
Every accepted item earns one credit at its tier level. Essentials items earn Essentials credits, Elevated items earn Elevated credits, and Special items earn Special credits. Your monthly plan sets how many credits you can use per cycle.
What if I want more items than my plan allows?
You can still get more items by paying a trade fee for each additional swap beyond your monthly allowance. It is a simple add-on that gives you flexibility without having to upgrade your whole plan.
What if I want a higher value item than what I sent in?
No problem. If the item you want is in a higher tier than the credits you have, you simply pay an upgrade fee to cover the difference and complete the swap.
Do credits expire?
Credits carry forward automatically for up to 12 months from the date they are earned.
When Am I Charged?
Your first membership charge occurs when your first swap bag is received, not when you sign up. Monthly billing renews on that date each month.
can I Cancel any Time?
Yes. There is no contract and no cancellation fee. You can cancel anytime from your account settings.
what if i want to pause my membership?
A: We offer a pause option for members who need a break. Log into your account to manage your membership, or reach out to us directly and we will take care of it for you.
what is the closet standard?
It is our quality standard for everything that comes through KidSwaps. Items must be in excellent condition with no stains, pilling, damage, odors, or broken hardware. For toys, everything must be under 3 pounds, fit in a shoe box, complete, screen-free, and next-child ready. If it is not something you would be genuinely excited to receive, it will not make it through.
How is KidSwaps different from a consignment shop?
With consignment you drop things off and hope they sell. With KidSwaps you earn credits as soon as your items are accepted, and you use those credits to get something your child needs right now. No waiting, no listing, no pricing.
How is KidSwaps different from ThredUp or Poshmark?
Those platforms are marketplaces where you sell to strangers and wait for buyers. KidSwaps is a membership swap service. You send in what your child has outgrown, earn credits, and shop a curated collection right away.
Is this eco friendly?
Yes. Every swap keeps clothing and toys in circulation longer, reduces textile waste, and means one less new item needs to be manufactured. It is one of the most practical ways to build a sustainable kids wardrobe.
