You fill your swap bag with the clothing and toys your kids have outgrown and send it back with the prepaid label already attached. Every accepted item earns a credit, and credits are what you spend in the closet.
Most choose to send their items first to earn their first credits, but you can buy a starter pack and shop now if you see something that catches your eye. Your first swap bag will be shipped to you either way.
Your credits land in your bank the moment your bag is graded, and you'll get an email with a full breakdown of what was accepted, and what wasn't.
Shipping is covered both ways, and your return bag comes to you prelabeled, so there's nothing extra to pay and nothing to print.
New items go up as bags are graded, and everything you see was sent in by another family or picked out by hand. The closet is never the same twice, so it's worth a look even when nothing fits this week.
Your cart stays with you while you look around the site, even if you refresh the page. Close the tab and it clears. Nothing in it is held for you until you check out, so if another member checks out an item first, it's theirs.
Your plan decides the category. If you're on a clothing plan, send clothing. If you're on The Toy Chest, send toys. The Everything Bag covers both, so you can mix them in the same bag. Anything outside your plan can't be credited, so be sure to only send what you can get credit for.
Within that, we're looking for sizes 6 months through 7, freshly washed, and good enough that you'd be happy to receive it. No stains, holes, pilling or pet hair, nothing altered, nothing with the label cut out, and nothing from Shein. Carters, Cat & Jack and lower tier items must be in great or like new condition. Lower tier items in "good" condition may not get credited. Socks must be new, and we never take underwear.
Toys need to be complete, fully cleanable, nothing electronic, and small enough to fit in the bag comfortably alongside everything else. Sets are welcome up to twelve pieces, so puzzles and building sets are best kept small enough to check at a glance. The Closet Standard walks through all of it properly, with photos.
We're unable to clean each item before listing, and can't give you credit if we can't swap it. The quality of our items is what makes it special for the next family.
Your monthly plan caps how many items you can bring home, not how many you can send in, so there's no reason to hold anything back. Every accepted item earns a credit, whether you send three things or twelve.
We do take shoes, but don't suggest it unless they're close to new, super clean, and the style is currently in fashion. You can get more specifics on The Closet Standard page, and if you're not sure, they probably won't get you a credit.
Every order ships with an empty swap bag folded inside it, prelabeled and ready to go. You don't have to ask for one and you don't pay for it.
Anything that doesn't meet The Closet Standard is donated or recycled responsibly, and it isn't mailed back to you. You'll get an email after your bag is graded showing exactly what was accepted and what wasn't. If you're unsure if we'll accept it, please don't send it.

The Everything Bag includes up to 10 clothing and 3 toy swaps a month. If you’re on a clothing plan now, you can switch to it from the Pricing page while you’re logged in.
Regardless of which plan you choose, two shipments per month are included. Your order always comes with next month's swap bag included, and prelabeled, so you can spend the month filling it back up and just pop it in the mail.
Credits you've earned stay in your bank until you spend them, and they roll over month to month.
The "manage membership" button on your dashboard cancels it. You'll be able to use your swaps until the end of the period you've already paid for.
Your credits stay in your bank. If you come back and start a membership again, they'll be here waiting for you.
We're not currently offering a pause feature, but if you need a break, you can cancel from your dashboard and nothing more will be charged. You can keep swapping until the end of the period you've already paid for. If you come back, your credits and swap history will be right where you left them.
If you've already used your monthly swaps and see something else you want, you can pay an extra $5 per item. If it's added to your monthly swap there's no extra fee. If a second shipment is required for the month, you also pay that shipping fee.
Everything is sent in by another family or picked out by hand, and every single item is checked before it's listed. We're cautious of pilling and fading, and don't accept anything with visible stains, holes, odors, pet hair, or broken zippers, snaps, or buttons. If it wouldn't pass for your own kid, it doesn't go in the closet.
Condition first, always. After that the brand gives us a starting point and the individual piece decides where it lands, so a well-made Carters piece in great condition can be an essential, and a Ralph Lauren sweater with a hole in the cuff won't be accepted at all. We ask every member to send things in freshly washed. We check every item by hand, but we don’t launder them ourselves, so plenty of people give things a quick wash when they arrive out of habit.

No. We're not picky about the label as long as the piece is in great condition and it's a style kids are actually wearing now. Vintage is fine, out of style isn't. We do need a recognizable label, and we don't take anything from Shein.
Selling means photographing each piece, listing it, answering questions and waiting. Once fees and shipping come out, a $10 shirt on Poshmark leaves you closer to $7. Here you fill one bag, send it in, and every accepted item earns a credit you spend on something your kid can actually wear next. Donating is a good thing to do and it's still one-directional. You hand over things that cost real money and were barely used, and you get nothing in return. Here those same items come back to you as credits, and the clothes go straight to another family instead of into a bale.
Nothing here is borrowed and nothing has to go back. What you bring home is yours to keep, and swapping it later is a choice rather than a due date. If your kid loves something, she keeps wearing it.
