Used girls dresses
You bought it for the wedding. She wore it for four hours, sat still for the photos, and it went back on the hanger that night.
It's still perfect. That's the problem. There's nothing wrong with it and there's no reason to put it on her again, so it hangs there until the next thing comes up, and by then it doesn't fit.
Everyday clothes take a beating. Knees go, cuffs stretch, and a shirt she loves goes through the wash forty times in a year.
A dress worn to one event doesn't get any of that. One afternoon, one wash, back in the closet. So when a dress arrives here it's usually in the condition it was in the day it was bought, and those are the backbone of what's here.
There's the wedding she was a flower girl in. The Easter dress. The one for photos at the beach, and the one that got packed for the trip and worn to dinner twice. Birthdays, the holiday party, picture day at school.
Each one gets an afternoon. Some of them get less than that. And they don't wear out, they just stop fitting, so the whole lot ages out together somewhere between one summer and the next.
That's most of what comes through here, and it's why the dresses tend to look untouched.
Every dress is inspected by hand before it reaches the closet. We're looking for the things you'd check yourself.
No stains, no holes, no pilling, no fading. Zippers and buttons all working, hems and seams intact, ties and sashes still attached. Nothing pulled or snagged in the skirt, and nothing that's been let out or taken in.
Nothing that's been altered, and nothing with its tags cut out.
If we wouldn't put it on our own kids, we don't accept it.
It's still perfect, which is exactly why it's hard to get rid of. Donating it feels like a waste and selling it means photographing it, listing it, and answering questions about a dress that might go for eight dollars.

Dresses run from 6 months through size 7, same as the rest of the closet. Sizing varies a lot between brands, so the size on the label is a starting point rather than a promise.
No. Everyday dresses are welcome too. Occasion dresses just happen to be most of what arrives, because they're the ones that get worn twice and outgrown.
A well made dress without a name brand on it can earn its place just as easily.
Good enough that you'd be proud to share it with a friend. That's the whole test, and it's the same one we use when a bag arrives here.
Please do. We ask everyone to send things in freshly washed, and every dress is checked by hand when it gets here.
They're donated or recycled. They don't come back in the bag.
